LIFE SelPiBioLife: Innovative silvicultural treatments to enhance soil biodiversity in artificial black pine stands

SelpiBioLife is a project under the category Biodiversity (LIFE13 BIO/IT/000282), for innovative or demonstration projects that consider biodiversity issues within the LIFE+ Nature and Biodiversity strand. The  main goal of the project is to demonstrate the positive effects of an innovative silvicultural treatment on black pine forests. The specific innovative treatment applied in the stands improves growth rates and stands stability and enhance the level of biodiversity of the various soil components (flora, fungi, bacteria, mesofauna, nematods and microarthropods).

vitisom

LIFE Vitisom

Development and demonstration of innovative technology to manage vineyard organic fertilization: the project aims to implement the VRT (Variable-rate technology) to upgrade the vineyard organic fertilization distribution systems, an innovation for the viticultural sector.

climatree

LIFE CLIMATREE

A novel approach for accounting & monitoring carbon sequestration of tree crops and their potential as carbon sink areas.

FutureForCoppiceS

LIFE FutureForCoppiceS

The project aims at demonstrating, by real datasets collected from a long-term experimental plots network, how different management approaches have actually favoured or constrained the overall and the different aspects of sustainability of coppice forests.
Given the concurrent, substantial changes of the forest growth environment (e.g. increased concentration of greenhouse gases, rising temperature, reduced precipitation and increased seasonal variability) occurring since the last decades, the results will improve the knowledge basis for SFM in the in view of the forecasted changes in key environmental drivers and pressures.

LIFE CarbOnFarm

The LIFE+ CarbOnFarm project represents an application of both demonstrative and innovative practices aimed to promote the sustainable Soil Organic Matter (SOM) managements in the agro-ecosystems. The objective is the restoration of SOM functions in agricultural soils, attained through the valorization of local recycled agricultural biomasses and with soil application of green chemistry products; these practices will be applied at farm scale reproducing the local regional farming systems. The project strategies approach the environmental problems related to the decrease of soil organic carbon content and to soil degradation, in agricultural areas of Mediterranean countries, which are among the chiefly target objectives advised by EU Soil Thematic Strategy.

LIFE AgroClimaWater

The LIFE AgroClimaWater project’s main objective is to promote water efficiency and support the shift towards climate resilient agriculture in Mediterranean countries through the development of water management adaptation strategies in three Farmers’ Organizations (FORs) in two areas in Crete, Greece (Platanias and Mirabello) and one in Basilicata, Italy (Metapontino).

The Project aims to «distill» GOOD PRACTICES from LIFE projects of forestry interest implemented throughout the European Union between 1992 and 2018. Good practice, in this case, is intended as a tool for applying nature conservation, in relation to forest issues in a broad sense. Good practice can be defined on the basis of an application theme (sustainable forest management, climate change mitigation, adaptation to climate change, nature conservation, conservation of biodiversity), an application context (biogeographical region, habitat, species, etc.) and the problems and threats dealt with. Here the GoProFor database is available.
